Biography
David Favel (b 1961) was recognised as a child prodigy and his parents sent him to train with George Boys (one of South Africa's Pre-eminent Artists) at the age of 5. Art, Music, Literature and fishing sustained David during his teenage years, when he discovered Velázquez and Dali at age15. This set into motion a prolific period of painting, which though initially heavily influenced by the two above Artists led to David refining his own technique, embracing Pop Art in the process. On a brief visit to London in 1982, he spent 2 weeks absorbed in that city's art galleries, and the inspiration that this provided led directly to an exhibition at the Everard Read Gallery in Hyde Park, Johannesburg. During the following year , David had both portrait and Painting commissions, whilst working for the Advertising department of Russels Department Store. In 1983 David left South Africa to live in Israel, where he found permanent employment as a Mural Artist in Ma'alot. He married Esther in 1988 and in the following year decided to return to South Africa in 1990. David works with Graphic novels,commisioned portraits and Record Sleeves. David Favel is available for any Portrait or Painting commissions, and currently lives in Florida, close to Johannesburg, South Africa.
